All Tandem services are provided by volunteers arranged by the Tandem Coordinator in Midhurst.
There is always a need for additional volunteer drivers, driving either your own car or one of the Tandem vehicles. The smallest of these is no bigger than a car and is equipped with an electric winch, so loading even the heaviest wheelchair passenger is effortless. Two larger vehicles, both with wheelchair lifts require no special driving skills and only the larger of the two requires a D1 driving licence. You will receive instruction on the operation of the wheelchair lifts. Tandem is demand driven so there is no fixed schedule: drive when and if you can. The Tandem Coordinator will phone to ask whether you are available to drive to a medical appointment or for one of the Tandem arranged social outings So if you have a clean driving licence you can drive your own car or a Tandem vehicle.
Volunteers to Assist with Social Activities
Volunteers are needed to assist with planning a programme of outings to places of interest such as gardens, stately homes, or simply a pub for lunch. The programme covers a period of three months with an outing every second week.
Volunteers are also needed to assist with arranging social activities for members. These include a strawberry tea in the summer and a Christmas lunch in the winter.
There is always a need for help at the regular Tuesday Club held in Midhurst.
For the Housebound Reader Service volunteers take books to those who are unable to visit a library. The volunteer discusses the sort of books that would be of interest, selects books at the library and delivers the books, collecting those that have been read.
